2011 Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard ‘Bâtard-Montrachet’ GC (Burgundy)

A 0.3ha site with vines that range from 30-80 years old, straddling the boundary of Puligny and Chassagne. Batard is one of five Grand Crus on the Montrachet hill, bordering the Grand Cru vineyard of Montrachet in the west and Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet in the south. It spends 12 months in barrel (appx. 30% new) Annually 1,500 bottles are produced, with both ‘Le Montrachet’ & ‘Batard-Montrachet’ being collectible on release, such is demand!

Burghound (Allen Meadows) – Rated 94 Points
“There is a trace of exoticism here as well with a similar set of aromas though here the floral elements are more pronounced and the overall complexity is enhanced relative to that of the Criots. There is excellent precision and punch to the broad-shouldered, concentrated and very serious flavors that are shaped by a firm acid spine on the linear, explosive and markedly saline finish. This is terrific and possesses outstanding development potential. In a word, impressive.”

The Wine Advocate – Rated 94 Points
“The palate is struck through with superb tension and grace, delicate touches of citrus peel, finely poised with an intense and penetrating finish.”
