Henschke 'Mount Edelstone' Shiraz 2010 (Eden Valley) Outstanding!

Matthew Jukes 100 Best Australian Wines 2014/2015
2010 Henschke, Mount Edelstone Vineyard Shiraz, Eden Valley, SA £68
The 2009s are slower out of the blocks than the 2010 Henschke, Mount Edelstone Vineyard Shiraz is another awe-inspiring wine from this legendary winery. The vines are 98 years old in the Mount Edelstone vineyard and they are making some of the best fruit of their lives. The nose is a stunning amalgam of liquorice, blackcurrant coulis and bouquet garni.
The texture is shot silk, like the gown Katniss Everdeen wore on the chariot when it burst into
flames. The fruit comes in waves, rolling rhythmically across the palate in perpetual harmony.
This wine is so luscious and so elegant that it defies convention. It is as close to perfection as
any Henschke wine I have tasted. Bravo.”

Previous vintages have received 97+ Point ratings with The Wine Advocate.

The Wine Advocate (Lisa Perotti-Brown) – Rated 97+ Points
“Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2010 Mount Edelstone is a single-vineyard Shiraz showing a little reticent at this youthful stage, though it gives delicate black and red fruit aromas that fan out with air to reveal kirsch, red currant jelly, mulberries and Chinese Five Spice notes alongside hints of dusty earth and potpourri. The palate is led by its commendable structure at this stage, with firm, grainy tannins and very lively acid to support the tight-knit fruit. It finishes long and layered. Consider drinking this 2016 to 2026+.” 14.5%ABV Stelvin Closure Tasted March 2013.

The Australian Wine Companion (James Halliday) – Rated 97 points
“The vineyard was planted in 1912 and Mount Edelstone was the first vineyard release in 1952. Bright crimson-purple, perfectly balanced and composed, its latent power may not be realised; black and red cherry fruits at its heart with lesser plum and blackberry notes. Superb tannins, and high-quality oak totally integrated on the long, silky finish. Outstanding medium bodied shiraz.” 14.5% alc; Vino-Lok .Tasted March 2013

TOP DROPS OF THE MONTH – MAX ALLEN (GOURMET TRAVELLER AUGUST 2013)
“Yes, I know the Hill Of Grace is the flagship-icon Shiraz. It’s also $650. And you know what? as impressive as the Hill of Grace is, I honestly prefer this; The 2010 Mt.Edelstone is particulary exciting, with sinewy dark fruit, damp black earth and great vitality.”
